I came across the Green Man in 1999 when I was traveling with a women’s chorus through the British Islands. There were only a few Green Woman images ever recorded. Back home in the southwest, I found my mind converting the ancient Celtic image into something southwestern. I started with a painted version on my first dulcimer case. Then I converted her into a wall hanging for that same dulcimer. Next I converted her into a Membres-style black line drawing for a surface design through Spoonflower.com. Finally, I have thread painted her on my latest remade bag. My readings indicate the Green Man/Woman is associated with death/rebirth, poetry, song, and renewal. These are all elements I feel are desperately needed in these politically charged and divisive times. With each creative expression of Green Woman, I am hoping to perpetuate her healing qualities into the world.
