From Cool to Warm

Leaving the cool Foggy River on my design wall just to enjoy, I’m already working on a piece I’ll call “Bargello Jumble!” It’s inspired by the Peruvian place mat below.

Peruvian Placemat

For those unfamiliar with the term “Bargello,” it’s a quilting technique I haven’t used before. It involves sewing strips together, cutting them perpendicularly, shifting them to create a different pattern, then sewing the new strips together again.

I’m planning to add beads to accentuate or develop the Peruvian patterns seen in the placemat. Then I’ll make it into a little tabeltop screen. I’ll use unused chopsticks as the supports.

This morning I cut the two whole pieces into five inch sections. These panels will eventually be back-to-back, beaded and joined by fabric hinges. The remnants on the ends will be the pieces enclosing the end chopsticks.

Happily retired! Renewing my interests in music and art. Hoping to improve my skills in all creative areas.
