Today I turned my craft table into a giant ironing board with two layers of a blanket, and one of quilt batting. Now I’m able to keep all the pieces in place while I cut the fusion material and iron them on. The flying birds, nested birds and the two blue butterflies are fused in place. I have little yellow “moths” ready to add on, but my back needed a rest!
The orange roses, roughly pinned at the bottom, was an idea I picked up at the Hip Stitch store here in Albuquerque. (They’re having their 75% sale these days.) The pink flowers were inspired by something I saw at the Fiber Arts Fiesta earlier this year. I will have to sew the 3D flowers on after the whole thing is quilted.
I joined the New Mexico chapter(?) of Studio Art Quilters Association (SAQA) today. I was so impressed with the warmth and encouragement of the group of people I met yesterday at their general meeting. I think they will be a group I can grow my skills with. They were very encouraging to me when I shared this project.
